General information about National Debtline
National Debtline is a national telephone helpline for people with debt problems in England, Scotland and Wales. The service is free, confidential and independent. The service was set up in 1987. National Debtline is part of the Money Advice Trust, (registered charity no 1099506). The service provides self-help advice to its callers and also produces written self-help packs and factsheets to back this up. The service can also assist callers with the setting up of Debt Management Plans for England & Wales, Debt Relief Orders for England & Wales or Debt Management Plans for Scotland.
Money Advice Trust
The Money Advice Trust (MAT) is a charity (Registered Charity Number 1099506) formed in 1991 to increase the quality and availability of free, independent money advice in the UK. MAT aims to help people with debts that they cannot manage. MAT wants to support people in the UK and improve the standards of independent money advice.
MAT's Vision: To contribute to reducing unmanageable debt of UK consumers.
MAT's Mission: To support individuals in the UK with unmanageable debts and to improve the capacity, quality and efficient delivery of free-to-client independent money advice, through:

National Debtline self-help materials
Our self-help information is available for free to individuals in debt. Agencies who are not MAT partners can purchase the self-help pack at a price which covers publication and administration costs. There are discounts for bulk orders of the pack. The National Debtline factsheets are also available individually and as a complete set. The prices are outlined in the order form.
